Digital Billboard Advertising

OUR INVENTORY

i-media operates the largest independent network of digital billboards across UK roads. Every screen in our network is backed by real audience data, giving brands a smarter way to reach drivers at scale.

Out of Home

What is digital billboard advertising?

Digital advertising boards are large-format screens used to display advertising content across out-of-home (OOH) environments. Because the creative is digital, campaigns can be updated remotely, scheduled by time of day, and rotated between multiple advertisers on the same digital advertising board.

For i-media, this means every digital billboard in our network sits within a high dwell environment where drivers are stopping, not just passing through. Motorway service areas (MSAs), petrol forecourts and EV charging hubs provide brands with longer and more meaningful exposure to their target audience.

What are the benefits of digital billboard advertising?

Digital billboards do more than replace static print with a screen. They change what's possible for outdoor advertising altogether. From remote creative updates to real-time responsiveness, digital formats give brands a level of speed, flexibility, and impact that traditional billboards simply can't match.

Speed and agility. Creative can be updated, swapped, or scheduled remotely. No printing, no physical site visits, no lead time. Campaigns can go live or change direction in hours rather than weeks.

Efficiency at scale. A single piece of creative can run across an entire network simultaneously, or be tailored by location, time of day, or audience, all managed from one place rather than coordinating multiple print runs and installations.

Motion and animation. Unlike static print, digital billboards can use video, animation, and subtle motion to draw the eye and hold attention for longer.

Dynamic, contextual creative. Content can respond to real-world triggers, such as time of day, weather, or live data, to keep messaging relevant rather than fixed for the duration of a booking.

Reduced waste. No unsold print runs, no obsolete creative sitting on a board after a campaign ends. Digital removes the physical waste associated with traditional billboard production.

These advantages make digital billboard advertising a format built for brands that need to move at the pace of their market, not the pace of a print run.

Advanced ANPR Targeting

Why choose i-media?

Most digital billboard companies sell locations. i-media sells audiences. Our ANPR-based technology verifies who's actually in front of every screen. The result is a network built for precision: the right digital billboard ads, in front of the right driver, at the right moment.

Audience first

Our proprietary Intelligence Platform profiles the drivers moving through each location using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology, geo-location data, and vehicler owership data. This allows us to build campaigns around bespoke audience gtroups, rather than footfall alone.

Exclusive MSA environment access

i-media holds exclusive advertising rights across a network of motorway service areas - inventory unavailabel through any other provider.

Depth of data at scale

Our data platform records up to 8.1 million vehicles entering and leaving our sites each week. With each one providing over 50 data points (including make, model, age, mileage, ownership history, value, MOT due data and fuel type), we have access to a massive bank of data on a national, broadcast scale.

How do our digital billboards work?

i-media's digital billboards are more than just screens. They're nodes in a connected, data-led network. Here's how a campaign comes together.

Ads on our screens rotate in 20 second slots. Our audience profiling platform, the Intelligence Platform, determines the best moment for our screens to switch on your campaign, going live automatically when the target audience is identified.

Programmatic buying makes the process even more efficient. Our screens are available to buy through every major DSP, meaning you can launch, track and change campaigns, all in an instant. Learn more about our ad-tech offering.

Where are our digital billboards located?

i-media's digital billboards are positioned across the UK's Strategic Road Network (motorways and A-roads), giving national brands genuine end-to-end coverage. We are present in 98% of the UK’s motorway service areas, as well as 270+ roadside locations. Our nationwide reach includes high-volume corridors such as the M5 and M6, alongside motorway service areas, forecourts, and EV charging hubs throughout England, Scotland, and Wales.

This breadth means a single campaign can reach drivers consistently on a specific route, or be planned nationally for maximum scale, all through the same connected network.

Traditional billboards are static, printed, and fixed for the duration of a booking. Digital billboards display content on screens, meaning creative can be updated remotely, scheduled by time or audience, and rotated between advertisers.

Effectiveness comes down to environment and data. i-media's digital billboards sit in high-dwell-time locations like MSAs and forecourts, and are targeted using ANPR-verified audience data. Campaigns reach drivers who are stationary, attentive, and matched to relevant audience segments, rather than relying on passing traffic volume alone.

Campaign length depends on objectives. Programmatic buying supports short, tactical bursts around specific events or demand periods, while longer always-on campaigns can build sustained reach and frequency across the network.

Yes. Our digital network means creative can be updated, swapped, or scheduled throughout a live campaign, allowing advertisers to adapt messaging around performance, timing, or external factors without re-booking.

Audience data is captured and verified through ANPR technology across our network, feeding into the i-media Intelligence Platform and optimised. This allows campaigns to be measured against real vehicle movement and audience behaviour, rather than modelled estimates.
